Privacy Policy

Fresh Coast Beacons ("the App") is a Michigan lighthouse tracking app. We built it with a simple philosophy: your data is yours. This policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is stored, and what is shared (spoiler: nothing).

Information We Collect

The App does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. There are no user accounts, no sign-ups, and no cloud storage. All of the data described below lives entirely on your device.

Data You Provide

Discovery records — When you mark a lighthouse as visited, the App stores the lighthouse ID, visit date, and any notes you write. This is saved locally on your device.
Photos — Photos you take or select from your library are stored on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere.
Favorites — Lighthouses you bookmark are saved locally on your device.

Device Permissions

The App may request the following permissions. Each is optional and only used when you initiate the related action:

Camera — Used to take photos of lighthouses. Only activated when you tap the camera button.
Photo Library — Used to select existing photos to attach to a lighthouse. Only accessed when you choose to pick a photo from your library.
Location — Used to show your position on the map and sort lighthouses by distance. Only accessed when you use location-based features. Your location is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Information We Do Not Collect

No personal identifiers (name, email, phone number)
No advertising identifiers
No cookies or cross-site tracking

Analytics and Diagnostics

The App may collect anonymous, aggregated usage data such as which features are used, app launches, and crash reports. This data contains no personally identifiable information and is used solely to improve the App. No advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking is involved.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following external services:

OpenStreetMap — Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap servers when you view the map. OpenStreetMap may log standard web request data (IP address, timestamp). See the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.
Apple Maps — When you request directions to a lighthouse, the App opens Apple Maps. Apple's own privacy policy applies.

No data is shared with these services beyond what is required to load the resource (standard HTTP requests).

Data Storage and Security

All user data is stored locally on your device using the operating system's built-in storage. If you delete the App, all associated data is deleted with it.

Children's Privacy

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. There are no accounts, no data collection, and no tracking of any kind.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version on this page and update the date at the top.
